Types of Programs

The Desert Hills RTC model offers semi-secure, structured, therapeutic group living for children and adolescents with behavioral, neurological, and/or emotional problems where there is documented history and clinical information that justifies that the needs of the client cannot be met at a lower level of care. Individual, family and group therapies along with a comprehensive educational program, medication management, discharge and aftercare planning are a few of the essential elements that make up the therapeutic environment. The family is an essential component in every aspect of their child's care.

The Child's Residential Treatment Center (RTC) (5-18 years of age; boys and girls) treats clients who are severely emotionally disturbed and require extensive support and a comprehensive approach to psychiatric, social, and psychological needs. The program is focused on working with younger children utilizing the evidenced-based models: Attachment Theory, Play Therapy and CBT.

The Dual Diagnosis Unit offers specialized treatment to adolescent girls and boys who have problems with drugs and/or alcohol and who also have a mental health diagnosis. The program uses a combination of 12-step, psycho-education, and a 7 Challenge program designed specifically for adolescents. The Girl's Circle, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) are also utilized with strong emphasis placed on relapse prevention and support within the community for discharge preparation.

The Sexually Maladaptive Behavior program offers specialized treatment to adolescent males who have problems with sexualized behaviors or sexual offending. All professional staff receive Children's Juvenile Sexual Offender Treatment (CJSOT) training/certification. The program is designed to help adolescents understand behaviors, manage their emotions through CBT and develop the personal and social skills they will need to successfully transition into the community.

The Day Treatment program provides coordinated, intensive, individualized therapeutic, family, group, individual, and educational services for children, adolescents, and their families who are living in the community. The five day per week program begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. Evidenced-Based models include wraparound, Girl's Circle, Collaborative Problem-Solving, Double Trouble In Recovery and CBT.

Familyworks, Inc - a separate corporation - Treatment Foster Care Program (TFC) (boys and girls; 4-17 years of age) is designed for Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children and adolescents in need of constant and consistent supervision with clients who cannot be placed back in their homes or regular foster care. Treatment foster care parents are licensed, have completed training, and engage in ongoing training regarding SED clients. The client's clinical needs are addressed through their individualized treatment plan and treatment coordinator with the goal of re-unification with the natural family. Modalities utilized are CBT, Play Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

The BMS (boys and girls; 4-17 years of age) program is for clients who are at risk of removal from their family, foster family or school placement due to mental health and/or behavioral issues. The behavior management specialist's job is to role model, provide parent training, provide teacher training/support and help the child learn to manage their behaviors within the home and school. The Wraparound Model is utilized to incorporate all natural supports to ensure positive results.

The Out-Patient Medication Management Clinic is for children and adolescents (boys and girls, 5-17 years of age) presenting with significant functional impairment who can be maintained safely within their environment with support services.  The clinic offers medication and psychiatric evaluation, and medication management.
