Sub-Acute Unit

SUB-ACUTE UNIT

The Sub-Acute Unit is a medical model unit for males and females ages 11-18. These clients are severely emotionally disturbed and are experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral problems.

The unit is locked and the clients are supervised very closely by staff. Due to the severity of the problems that these clients are displaying, 24-hour nursing is offered. Psychiatric care is offered four days a week.

All clients/parents/guardians are invited to participate in the weekly Treatment Team meetings. Other members of Treatment Team include nurse, therapist, program director, unit staff and psychiatrist.  Individual and family sessions occur once a week, and group therapy occurs three times per week.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the therapeutic approach for the milieu.  Clients have a self-paced phase system which is correlated with CBT.  All clients are educated year round either through the charter school or through the Desert Hills school.
