Treatment Foster Care |
| |
FamilyWorks, Inc. is a separate corporation that has a mangement agreement with Desert Hills of NM to provide administrative oversight. Treatment Foster Care is the placement of seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in the homes of trained and licensed parents who are skilled in helping them develop more appropriate emotional and behavioral control. The goal is ultimately to work with the natural family and to reunite the child with their natural environment.
About Our Treatment Foster Parents: Our TFC parents receive a 40 hour pre-service training that includes specialized training in understanding the clients we work with, management of crisis behaviors and CPR/First Aid training. Each parent is carefully screened. Criminal records checks are conducted on the national, state and local level, along with a CYFD check to ensure that our parents do not have criminal records or substantiated child abuse/neglect charges. A thorough home study is completed to validate that the home environment is safe and that each member of the family can effectively contribute to the care of any child placed in the home. Each TFC parent maintains a minimum of 24 hours annual training as a requirement to maintain his or her licensure as a TFC parent.
Our TFC parents reflect the multicultural values and traditions of New Mexico families, modeling respect and acceptance of children from diverse backgrounds.
About Our Treatment Foster Children: Many of our children have successfully completed treatment in a psychiatric hospital and/or residential treatment center. TFC can also be an alternative to in-patient or RTC placement. They have ongoing issues that effect their ability to appropriately control their behavior and express emotions. They often have impaired family relationships as well. Treatment Foster Care addresses issues such as anger management, impulse control, and emotional instability.
Our goal is to place them in a family setting and administer weekly individual and family therapy with the goal being 'reunification' with the natural family.
Our services are coordinated with managed care organizations. All the children and adolescents who are placed in Treatment Foster Care receive assistance from their assigned Treatment Coordinator to secure authorization for placement and corresponding services such as individual and family therapy as well as medication management if necessary.
About Our Treatment Foster Care Staff: The Director, a Masters-level, licensed professional, provides supervision for the treatment staff to maintain clinical standards of care in our program. The Director organizes the training and licensing process for all new TFC parents and provides monthly training and support for the TFC parents.
Our Placement Coordinator, along with the Director, carefully matches each client assessed for placement with a prospective TFC family to ensure that all significant treatment concerns are addressed and reviewed with the TFC family.
The Treatment Coordinators, under supervision of the Director, work one-on-one with their clients/families and the TFC parents to develop the treatment plan, organize monthly treatment review meetings and facilitate ongoing problem-solving efforts to maintain the client's placement without disruption.
Family Works has two Masters-level Therapists who meet weekly with the clients, and as often as possible, with that client's biological family to assist in developing better communication and coping skills that support and stabilize these primary relationships. The Therapist works with the treatment coordinators to develop effective behavioral interventions and is a member of the treatment team. |
