Military Families Program Serving Children & Teens in New Mexico

At Desert Hills, our military families program offers compassionate care for emotionally-disturbed youth experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral problems.

Military Families Program Overview

As part of our mission to provide high quality, comprehensive behavioral and mental healthcare services, at Desert Hills, we are proud to offer services for the children and families of our military servicemen and women. Offered through Tricare, this program provides specialized treatment for female children between the ages of 7 and 12, as well as male and female adolescents and young adults between the ages of 13 and 21, who are struggling with such issues as emotional disturbances, behavioral disturbances, depression, anxiety, impulse control, anger management, developmental disabilities, and trauma, among many others.

Individualized Care

This program offers an individualized, strength-based approach to treatment using evidence-based therapeutic methods. Our facility-wide approach to care promotes positive behaviors and good decision-making through positive reinforcement and affirmations. This approach to care helps improves self-esteem and reduces strain and confusion when children are presented with crisis situations. This is especially beneficial when working with children of military families as they are often faced with many additional stresses and concerns that children of non-military families are not. There is also a strong emphasis placed on family therapy, as we recognize the monumental role that open and healthy communication plays in maintaining a happy and healthy family dynamic.

Therapeutic Interventions

When children and adolescents of military families take part in this Tricare program, they are offered a number of therapeutic interventions, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • 24/7 support and supervision from caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable mental health professionals
  • Year-round educational programming offered onsite
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • High and low ropes course

Whatever your child’s needs may be, the staff at Desert Hills will do everything in our power to help him or her overcome any obstacles that he or she is facing, confront any concerns that have arisen, improve his or her sense of self-worth, and ultimately begin walking down the road to the bright and happy future that he or she deserves to have.

Recovery Really Is Possible

Life as an alcoholic prevented me from having strong relationships with my loved ones.  Desert Hills taught me how to overcome my addiction and become a man of integrity.
